Postdoc positions in electrocatalysis for power-to-X applications at Aarhus University
We are seeking candidates for two post-doctoral positions within the field of electrocatalysis and materials synthesis. The positions will be affiliated with the new national Pioneer Center for Accelerating P2X Materials Discovery (CAPEX). The positions are for two years. In case further external funding is secured within the academic area the candidates are assessed obviously qualified for, an extension is possible for up to a total maximum of four years of employment as a postdoc.
The first position aims at applying new materials as electrocatalysts in key reactions of importance for power-to-X and the green transition. Our laboratory has state of the art equipment for electrocatalytic measurements, and the postdoc position will be lead in maintaining and further developing these facilities. The postdoc hopefully will become the “go to” person in the group on electrocatalytic characterization of a wide range of nanomaterials. Candidates must have a strong background in electrocatalysis.
The second position will have focus on materials synthesis. Solvothermal flow reactors will be used to develop new synthesis routes for advanced nanoparticle catalysts for P2X applications. Some reactions will be carried out under supercritical conditions. The materials will e.g. include high entropy alloy nanoparticles, bi- and multimetal catalysts, and multi-metal oxides and phosphides. In the group we have several thoroughly tested flow reactors, but the project will also include final development and testing of a new system using induction heating. The composition and structure of the synthesized nanoparticles will be characterized with a broad range of methods available in our laboratories as well as synchrotron and neutron facilities. Candidates must have a strong background in materials synthesis.
The starting date for both positions is expected to be April 1, 2023 or as soon as possible
The successful candidates will be involved in materials research in collaboration with other members of the Iversen group. The candidates must have a PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or similar.
The Department of Chemistry at Aarhus University (www.chem.au.dk) is one of the leading European chemistry departments with a broad research program. It has a permanent staff of ~35 full and associate professors, a support staff of ~30 people, ~150 PhD students and postdocs and around 500 students.
The Iversen group is affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) (www.inano.au.dk) as well as the Aarhus Center for Integrated Materials Research (iMAT) (www.imat.au.dk). iMAT integrates a diverse range of basic and applied materials research areas across departments and centers and thereby strongly contribute to solving some of the Grand Challenges of modern society.
For further information, please contact Professor, dr. scient. et techn. Bo Brummerstedt Iversen (bo@chem.au.dk).
Applications including CV, full publication list, references and a description of qualifications must be uploaded.
In the application please indicate which position you preferably apply for.
Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.
Letter of reference
If you want a referee to upload a letter of reference on your behalf, please state the referee’s contact information when you submit your application. We strongly recommend that you make an agreement with the person in question before you enter the referee’s contact information, and that you ensure that the referee has enough time to write the letter of reference before the application deadline. Unfortunately, it is not possible to ensure that letters of reference received after the application deadline will be taken into consideration.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Guidelines for applicants can be found here.
Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Further information on qualification requirements and job content may be found in the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities.
Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
Aarhus University’s ambition is to be an attractive and inspiring workplace for all and to foster a culture in which each individual has opportunities to thrive, achieve and develop. We view equality and diversity as assets, and we welcome all applicants.
Research activities will be evaluated in relation to actual research time. Thus, we encourage applicants to specify periods of leave without research activities, in order to be able to subtract these periods from the span of the scientific career during the evaluation of scientific productivity.
