Job Description

Highly motivated individuals with a PhD or MD/PhD in relevant area are encouraged to apply. This training position, under the direct supervision of a Cleveland Clinic Principal Investigator will provide practical training and experience in a research setting. This position is appointed through the Lerner Research Institute. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a commitment to research, a collaborative work ethic and strong communication skills, both written and verbal. This program is expected to be completed within 5 years.

The Chaitali Ghosh lab in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Lerner Research Institute at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH is recruiting an enthusiastic and motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join on a project focusing on the Molecular Mechanism of Glucocorticoid Receptor, Cytochrome P450, and P-Glycoprotein Axis on Drug Regulation at the Blood-Brain Barrier in Epilepsy. The Ghosh laboratory is engaging in multi-disciplinary research projects in blood-brain barrier and epilepsy research by collaborating with basic and clinical researchers from Lerner Research Institute and the Neurological Institutes at Cleveland Clinic.

A successful postdoctoral candidate should have a PhD in the relevant field with a strong background in basic science, molecular biology, blood-brain barrier research, rodent seizure/epilepsy models and neuroscience. The candidate should be well-versed with basic neurobiology, molecular biology, cell culture techniques, rodent electrode implantation surgery and recording of brain activity. Applicant should be able to demonstrate a commitment to research, a collaborative work ethic and strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Job Responsibilities:

Independent project design with the goal of data generation, analysis, interpretation and manuscript preparation

Perform experiments independently

Ability to design projects, generate, analyse and intergrate data for presentations and manuscript

Procure independent funding to support research

Rodent brain surgeries, electrode implantation & recording

Education:

PhD or MD/PhD required

MD with relevant laboratory experience may substitute for PhD

Languages:

English Proficiency proof required for candidates arriving on J-1, J-2, or F1 + OPT visa status

Work Experience:

Previous experience in a research or academic setting. Graduate student experience meets this requirement.

Scientific writing experience

Demonstrate good scientific writing skills and knowledge in basic research

Ability to operate lab equipment's and computer software's for analysis

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods

Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment

Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information

Ability to distinguish color

Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment

Ability to lift and transport equipment or specimens weighing up to 20 pounds

May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, bio-hazards, radioactive materials, etc.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $0.01

Maximum hourly: $333,340.26
