Empa is the research institute for materials science and technology of the ETH Domain and conducts cutting-edge research for the benefit of industry and the well-being of society.

In line with Empa's mission, the Technology and Society Laboratory (TSL) at Empa St. Gallen creates and transfers knowledge to support the transition to a more sustainability society. In particular, TSL analyses novel materials and emerging technology applications with a focus on associated material, energy stocks and flows, and evaluates them with regard to both natural environment and societal constraints.

Within TSL, the Environmental Risk Assessment and Management Group (ERAM), is looking fora Scientist or a PostDoc (100%) responsible for the development of “Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD)” approaches in the frame of the Horizon Europe project PARC

Your Tasks

Within PARC, the Partnership for the Risk Assessment of Chemicals, one focus is placed on Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) approaches. The overall goal of this work is to support the development and consolidation of concepts and tools for SSbD chemicals, materials and products and their operationalisation. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and application of SSbD approaches and methods. In close interaction with international projects partners from various fields, SSbD approaches will be developed and tested for materials and chemicals.

Your profile

Master Degree or PhD in environmental/natural sciences or engineering

Experience with risk assessment, life cycle-based methods or sustainability assessment

Experience in scientific writing and publishing

Excellent communication skills and fluency in English (both written and oral)

The position is initially limited to 3 years. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
