英国剑桥大学博士后职位---禽流感生物安全

Research Associate (Fixed Term)

University of Cambridge

Description

The Department of Veterinary Medicine is seeking to appoint a Post-doctoral Research Associate in Avian Influenza Biosecurity (Social Sciences). The position is available immediately or from 1 September 2022 or as soon as possible after this date.

The Department has won funding to study biosecurity on poultry farms to understand preventive practices utilised by poultry farmers in the UK and how they may have failed in some situations to allow ingress of avian influenza. The funding has been awarded as part of a national consortium set up to counter the biggest ever UK outbreak over the last 12 months (https: // www. gov.uk/government/news/uks-top-scientists-join-forces-to-battle- bird-flu-outbreaks).

This is a great opportunity for someone interested to use their strong ethnographic or qualitative research skills to contribute to an important, fast-paced multidisciplinary project. While based at Cambridge working under the supervision of Prof. James Wood, the successful applicant will also work in close collaboration with researchers of the GCRF One Health Poultry Hub at the Royal Veterinary College. The successful applicant will work with farmers to explore the experiences, perceptions and challenges surrounding biosecurity implementation on commercial UK poultry farms.

The study will involve an ethnographic approach to research with poultry farms, including farm visits and qualitative interviewing of farm managers and staff. Following initial qualitative research, a second round of research may also include a quantitative survey with a larger number of farms. As a 12-month, rapid response project, the role holder will need to work efficiently and with a certain level of autonomy to progress fieldwork and analysis. For this role, we are seeking a researcher with a strong background in ethnography or qualitative social science, preferably with familiarity of UK farming systems. Candidates will preferably have a PhD and experience in a relevant area, but those with experience and a relevant Masters degree should also apply.
