POSTDOC POSITION in Primary Cilia Biology

We are seeking a talented and motivated candidate to join our team to pursue the mechanisms and functions of primary cilia. The primary cilium is an antenna-like organelle that has emerged as a fundamental regulator of embryonic development as well as tissue homeostasis. Consequently, the deregulation of its assembly, maintenance, or function leads to numerous human diseases, collectively termed ciliopathies. It has been estimated that cilia dysfunctions are responsible for as many as 100 human diseases. However, the mechanistic explanation of primary cilia assembly and function, crucial for the understanding of cilia-related defects and their therapeutic targeting, is insufficient.

The successful candidate will join the lab of Dr. LukášČajánek at Masaryk University in Brno. The lab has a long-term interest in the role of a kinase termed TTBK2, which has emerged as a master regulator of primary cilia across vertebrates.

The selected applicant will have access to unique research tools, state-of- the-art methodology, and advanced instrumentation (cellular and animal models, proteomics, gene editing, lentiviral transduction, live cell imaging,  super-resolution microscopy, etc.).

The successful candidate should:

be a researcher who has received a PhD or its equivalent within the last 7 years

be a researcher who has worked at least 2 whole years in the last 3 years outside the territory of the Czech Republic in the field of research with a working time of at least 0.5 full-time equivalent, or who has been PhD student (or equivalent) abroad

have a publishing record – in the last 3 years at least 3 publication outputs (“articles”) above the field median (at least 2 of them in Q1) listed by the Web of Science

Specific criteria - the successful candidate should:

have a PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, or similar fields

have a solid publication record in well-recognized scientific journals, including at least one first-author research article

be skilled in mammalian cell culture, a broad range of molecular biology techniques, and advanced microscopy (considered as an advantage)

prove the interest and ability to tackle scientific challenges

be capable of independent planning of experiments to explore hypotheses, prioritizing tasks, and solving project-related issues

have excellent communication and documentation skills

be highly motivated, creative, and self-driven
