Job Description: As part of the NIH-funded Centers for Biomedical Research Excellence (CoBRE), Oklahoma Center for Respiratory and Infectious Diseases, the Laboratory of Tissue Science and Engineering in the School of Chemical Engineering at Oklahoma State University is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to lead experimental studies in the area of Tissue Engineering, specifically investigating respiratory infections in a tissue-engineered lung model. Other duties include managing laboratories and equipment, training graduate and undergraduate students, data analysis/presentation, and the preparation of manuscripts and proposals. This is a one-year, full-time research position. This position may be renewed at Oklahoma State University’s discretion for an extra two-year period based on available funding, college needs, performance review, and various other factors.
Qualifications: The applicant should have a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Science or a closely related field with experience in Immunology. Experience in any, or all, of the following areas will be considered: cell culture (aseptic techniques), microscopy (light, confocal, SEM, TEM), histology, immunopathology, ELISA, and flow cytometry.
The Oklahoma Center for Respiratory and Infectious Diseases brings together experts from Oklahoma State University, the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, and the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation to study respiratory syncytial virus, influenza virus and respiratory bacterial infection, covering disease pathogenesis, therapeutics, molecular mechanisms and bioengineering. The center includes the use of the following core facilities: Animal Model, Immunopathology, and Molecular Biology.
The Laboratory of Tissue Science and Engineering at Oklahoma State University is directed by Dr. Heather Fahlenkamp, Professor in the School of Chemical Engineering. Major areas of interest include the design of advanced tissue-engineered models to study inflammation associated with vascular complications, allergens, and infectious agents. Current projects are supported by NIH and NSF.
