The Opportunity
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be responsible for undertaking a research project aimed at characterising mechanisms of intercellular communication within the prostate cancer tumour microenvironment that promote development and progression of prostate cancer and that represent a source of novel biomarkers of early disease and prognosis, as well as therapeutic targets.
The project represents an exciting collaboration between the laboratories of Roger Daly and Renea Taylor at Monash University, Melbourne and Lisa Horvath at the Garvan Institute/Kinghorn Cancer Centre, Sydney, and has recently been funded by the US DOD Prostate Cancer Research Program. It builds upon our recent work that has identified a critical role for the LOXL2/collagen/DDR2 axis in prostate cancer-associated fibroblasts (Nguyen et al, Mol Cell Proteomics 18, 2019) and exploited CTAP proteomics to delineate novel pathways of intercellular signalling.
The research project is multifaceted and integrates identification of factors and pathways involved in intercellular signalling, functional characterisation of these using patient-derived cell and mouse models, and interrogation of patient tissue cohorts.
You will possess outstanding organisational and record keeping skills, high-quality written and oral communication skills and the ability to work with independence and as part of a team. We are looking for a candidate who is capable of generating high-quality, reproducible data for publications and presentations. You must be able to set up equipment, and design, conduct and troubleshoot experiments with a level of independence. A doctoral qualification in the relevant discipline or a closely related field is required.
Additionally, the successful candidate will also have a methodological approach to problem-solving, the capacity for forward planning and multi-tasking and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.
Expertise in the manipulation of gene expression by shRNA/CRISPR, cell and tissue imaging, mouse models of cancer and proteomics is desirable.
At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. Some positions at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.
This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to “”https://www.monash.edu/jobs/how-to-apply/applying-for-the-job">How to apply for Monash Jobs".
