Job Description
A postdoctoral fellow positions is immediately available in the laboratory of Jianjun Gao, MD, PhD, in the Department of Genitourinary Medical Oncology. We are looking for highly self-motivated candidates with a recent PhD or MD/PhD degree, to investigate mechanisms of response/resistance mechanisms to immune checkpoint therapy, to identify new therapeutic targets, and to test and design new therapeutic strategies in GU malignancies including renal cell carcinoma and bladder cancer, especially with bone and liver metastasis. Please refer to our recent publications for related information (Nat Med, 2017, 23(5): 551-555; Cell, 2016, 167(2): 397-404; Nat Commun, 2016, 7: 12335).
Successful candidate must be able to design novel projects, create hypothesis driven experiment, maintain excellent descriptions of experiments performed, standardize and validate new methods and be able to interpret results. Computer skills such as entering data obtained from experiments into graphic and statistics programs as well as the generation of figures are essentials. The employee should provide scientific expertise and organizational skills in getting involved in various research projects involving tissue and cell culture, tumor microenvironment, live cell imaging, small animal models and human subject research. Candidate will be responsible for coordinating procedures with collaborators. Other skills include performing technical laboratory duties in accordance with general and/or specific plans. Read, write and edit manuscripts and reports, as well as help with grant writing.
SCOPE: To coordinate and conduct experiments and design research projects in the areas of cell and molecular biology, and immunology in animal and human tissues. Will keep abreast with literature of interest to laboratory, write manuscripts and help with grant writing. Will confer with collaborators in Genitourinary Medical Oncology and translational and Human Subject research regarding new procedures and modify them according to the needs of the projects. Record and evaluate data obtained in accordance with methods. The employee should be able to coordinate with the clinical researchers related to human subject data.
REQUIREMENTS: Recent Ph.D. in immunology, cancer biology, molecular biology, genetics, or related fields.
