Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

To conduct computing and field (select and establish sites, collect, and analyze data, etc.) research on the effects of stand- and landscape-level characteristics along with prior management practices on the impacts of Hurricane Michael and other wind disturbances in the southeastern region.

Percentage of time 70 Duties/Responsibilities

Timely dissemination of results in peer-reviewed journals, outreach publications, and book chapters, and various presentations at scientific meetings.

Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities

Outreach, networking with other scientists, stakeholders, and collaborators, and writing grant proposals, as needed.

Work and collaborate with the forest entomology and biometrics lab group on various forest health related projects.

The Gandhi Forest Entomology Laboratory and Montes Biometrics Laboratory at the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia invites applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral researchers. This collaborative work will be conducted with the USDA Forest Service, Southern Research Station. Several teams and personnel will be involved in the project along with the USDA Forest Service FIA, USDA Forest Service EFETAC, USDA Forest Service GTAC, private forest companies, Southern Pine Health Research Cooperative, and Plantation Management Research Cooperative. The postdoctoral project will focus on the effects of stand- and landscape-level characteristics along with prior management practices on the impacts of Hurricane Michael. Fieldwork in the southeastern region, and in- depth statistical modeling and remote sensing work will be required.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

The ideal candidate will possess a strong quantitative background in statistical modeling, remote sensing, ecology and knowledge of programming languages like Python or R. An independent spirit to develop, conduct, and publish research is highly desired.
