Postdoctoral Researcher, Sport And Exercise Psychology
University Of Jyväskylä
The Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences is currently seeking to recruit a
POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER, SPORT AND EXERCISE PSYCHOLOGY , starting June 20th 2022, or as agreed, until 31 March 2025.
We are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work in a project entitled “A collaborative theory-based intervention to promote physical activity among sedentary parents and their children” funded by OKM (Ministry of Education and Culture, Finland).
In this project, the research team will develop an online theory-based behavioural intervention to increase physical activity engagement in low- active children and their parents. The efficacy of intervention will then be tested in a randomised waitlist-controlled trial, wherein parents and their children will be allocated to either an intervention group that receives the intervention, or to a waitlist control group that receives basic information on activity and measurement only. Processes of intervention acceptability, uptake and engagement, as well as how these factors relate to intervention effectiveness, will also be explored.
Tasks and qualifications
The person selected for the Postdoctoral Researcher position will lead the development of the intervention, planning the research studies around the intervention, and applying for further research funding to see the intervention into the implementation phase. The candidate will lead analysis and dissemination of data from the randomised controlled trial, targeting the highest impact journals in the field. The postdoc position will also include some administrative tasks and contributions to teaching (roughly 10% of total working time combined).
Applicants for the Postdoctoral Researcher position are required to have PhD in exercise psychology or other adjacent fields (e.g., social psychology, health psychology, sport sciences) as well as experience in research in motivation and behaviour change. Evidence of leadership of research projects, scientific writing, participation in research projects, and applications for research funding will be considered as advantages for the applicant. We value applicants with strong knowledge of theories of motivation and behaviour change and quantitative data analysis, excellent skills in scientific writing, and applying for external funding. The ideal applicant should have good ability to lead and manage research projects.
The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of a Postdoctoral Researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. In this position, the Postdoctoral Researcher is expected to have excellent skills in English language. According to Finnish law, a non-native university teaching and research staff member can be granted an exemption from the requirement of Finnish language proficiency.
