Postdoctoral Position (F/M/D) NA62 Experiment

Max Planck Institute For Physics

Description

Postdoctoral Position (f/m/d) NA62 experiment

07/15/2022

The Max-Planck-Institute for Physics (MPP) is a research institute focusing on particle and astroparticle physics from both an experimental and a theoretical perspective.

Within the framework of the Lise Meitner Group “In search of a new, light physics” we invite applications for a

Postdoctoral Position (f/m/d)

in the NA62 experiment at CERN. Within the exotics working group in NA62, the aim is to find weakly coupled new physics beyond the standard model at the MeV scale.

The successful candidate is expected to take a major role in the analysis of data taken in NA62 for the search of new physics particles (especially in beam-dump mode). In addition, the candidate should take a leading role in contributing to quality checks of such data and the development of Monte Carlo tools for exotic physics in NA62. A possibility to work on projects in particle phenomenology, as well as a contribution to other projects in the research group (haloscopeaxion searches) in part time is also possible. This position requires occasional travel to CERN, including data-taking shifts.

Candidates must hold or be near completion of a PhD in experimental or theoretical particle physics or equivalent at the time of recruitment. A person with strong programming skills, experience in data analysis for hep experiments and a predilection towards beyond the standard model particle physics would be ideal. Expertise with collaborative development tools for software and experience in C++ or python is an advantage.

The position is initially limited to a period of two years, with the possibility of extension of at least one additional year. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the German public service pay scale (TVöD Bund).

The Max Planck Society strives for gender equality and diversity. The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. Furthermore, the Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.

For questions concerning the position offered, please contact Babette Döbrich (babette.dobrich@cern.ch). Interested scientists should send their applications (including a CV and a statement of research interests) until September 15, 2022 and arrange for two recommendation letters to be sent as PDF and received by the same date via e-mail to jobs@mpp.mpg.de.
