Postdoctoral Research Associate in Chemistry
University of Oxford
Description
Department of Chemistry, Kavli Institute for NanoScience Discovery, New Biochemistry Building, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QU
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Chemistry to work under the supervision of Professor Andrew Baldwin for a period of up to 1 year. The project is part of a wider programme of work to establish that membraneless organelles, biological liquid droplets, are effectively regions of organic solvent, suspended inside cells and that the properties of each are governed by the specific intermolecular interactions responsible for stabilising the chains.
This presents an exciting opportunity to demonstrate how fundamental principles from physical chemistry have been incorporated into cellular function. We are now looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher with experience both in RNA nanotechnology and cryo electron tomography to study the structure of droplets formed by phase separation of proteins, as well as explaining droplet properties by using thermodynamic models of phase separation.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Biochemistry or a related area, or be close to completion, prior to taking up your appointment.
The research requires experience in protein expression, production of biological samples, a passion for precise work in the wetlab, ideally with knowledge in advanced microscopy techniques. You will be expected to manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, co-ordinating multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.
The post will be based in the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, New Biochemistry Building, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QU and is available immediately.
You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday 17 August 2022. Interviews will be held shortly after.
The University of Oxford is a Bronze Athena SWAN holder and the Department of Chemistry is a Silver award holder. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in Chemistry research posts in Oxford.
