University of California Irvine (UCI)
A postdoctoral position, focusing on the cellular and circuit mechanisms of stress-induced cognitive impairment, is open in the Neuronal Signal Integration Laboratory in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior at UC Irvine, California.
The group applies state of the art optical techniques (optogenetics and multi-photon imaging) in behaving animals, complemented by slice physiology and computational modelling, to interrogate neural circuits. Our primary goal is to understand how neuronal circuit interactions give rise to cognitive functions and how adversities and stress erodes cognitive performance (see http://faculty.sites.uci.edu/lurlab/ for more information).
The successful candidate will spearhead a research effort to study the dynamics and fundamental architecture of cognitive circuits. Postdoctoral Fellows in our group receive advanced training in optical and electrophysiology methods, behavioral paradigms, data analysis, scientific writing, and presentation, with an explicit goal of training the next generation of leaders in neuroscience.
Employment is conditional on a PhD in neuroscience or related field (biological sciences, physics, computer science) conferred by the time the position is started. A strong candidate will have demonstrable (first author publications, GitHub repositories, etc.) experience with microscopy and imaging, rodent behavior, electrophysiology, surgical techniques, programming (python, MATLAB), data analysis and scientific writing. Applicants should send their CV, a personal or research statement, and the contact information of 3 academic references to glur@uci.edu.
Salary and benefits will follow NIH and UC guidelines. Applications from women and underrepresented minorities are encouraged, the selection process will be purely merit based.
