Short Description of Project
Due to their adjustable morphologies, wearable soft robotic devices for rehabilitation and motion support have emerged as promising robotic systems during the past decade. In contrast to metal exoskeletons, soft robotics provide safer interactions between humans and robots. For the construction of wearable soft robotics, elastomers and textiles have become promising low-cost and flexible material options. Despite their considerable promise, the exhibited solutions of prior research are cumbersome, unreliable, non- scalable, and have limited portability and mobility. All of these limitations prevent practical applications of soft robotic devices for at-home help and rehabilitation during activities of daily living, for which they are intended and where they are most needed. The primary purpose of TEXWEAROTS is to build untethered knitted soft robotic assistance devices to address current limitations associated with the reliability, mobility, sustainability, and integration of wearable soft-robotic systems. TEXWEAROTS focuses on the creation of a knitted robotic glove with integrated actuation, sensing, and self-powering capabilities that is free of bulky components. With PI's extensive background in textile manufacturing, soft sensors, and soft robotics, The project will utilize the most recent developments in digital machine knitting to produce 3D actuator shells with integrated functionality. This will result in extremely scalable and dependable textile-based robotic devices resembling garments. In addition, the project will provide thermally driven fluidic actuation by integrating soft Peltier cooling technology, which improves actuator response time for motion aid applications. The TEXWEAROTS system integrates textile and material science, physiotherapy, robotics, electronics, and biomedical engineering. The glove's suggested unique technologies and manufacturing methodologies will lead to a significant advancement in wearable soft robotics and wearable electronics.
SoftSensorslab at Istanbul Technical University is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship under the European Research Council-funded project '101042402 — TEXWEAROTS — ERC-2021-STG' with the following conditions:
