Position Details
General Statement
An electrochemist is sought who has extensive experience fabricating lithium- ion coin and pouch cells, characterizing the cells using galvanostatic cycling, cyclic voltammetry, and impedance spectroscopy, and analyzing and reporting large quantities of electrochemical data (several dozen cells) in short reporting periods (typically one week timescales). Experience with standard lithium-ion chemistries in anodic half-cell configuration is preferred (graphite/carbon, carbonate electrolytes, lithium metal) and previous experience with high-precision coulometry is heavily weighted for favorable consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities
Establishing and managing an electrochemistry laboratory for materials synthesis, coin and pouch cell fabrication, electrochemical analysis, and materials characterization.
Scientific communication in the form of weekly reports, scientific manuscripts (minimum 2 per year).
Scientific conference presentations (minimum 1 per year).
Activity in the Center for Research in Extreme Batteries (CREB) project, collaboration with external partners, and assistance with CREB reporting requirements.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, or a related field (e.g., engineering), experience fabricating/characterizing coin and/or pouch cells.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills The Successful Candidate Will
Be an independent scientist, dutiful in fulfilling the project goals as well as spending time on their own scientific projects.
Extremely competent in electrochemical fabrication and analysis techniques, a strong materials chemist, a productive researcher (demonstrating the skills to generate publishable research twice per year), and a safe and organized laboratory user.
Be an effective team player, good communicator (in writing and presenting scientific talks), and a role model in terms of ethical behavior for the graduate students in the project.
