Post-Doctoral Researcher (H/F) : Atlas Experiment
Universities And Institutes Of France
Description
Organisation/Company: CNRS
Research Field: Physics
Researcher Profile: First Stage Researcher (R1)
Application Deadline: 02/09/2022 23:59 - Europe/Brussels
Location: France › ORSAY
Type Of Contract: Temporary
Job Status: Full-time
Hours Per Week: 35
Offer Starting Date: 01/11/2022
The post-doctoral fellow will be in charge of the pixel module and sensor characterisation and testing. He or she shall contribute to activities such as • Design and develop a special test bench to allow the quality control of pixel modules. • Setup the relevant DCS and DAQ systems needed for the pixel modules testing. • Setup, test and deploy the database link of IJCLab with the ATLAS production database. • Automatise pixel sensor tests using IJCLab probe station. • Develop monitoring and remote testing scripts. • Contribution to modules characterisation with test beam at CERN and DESY. • Train and supervise students and technicians on the project.
The postdoctoral researcher will be part of the ATLAS-ITk team of IJCLab, responsible for the assembly and testing the pixel modules of ITk, the future tracker of ATLAS for the HL-LHC phase. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dimitris Varouchas contributing in the production and quality control of the pixel modules. Depending on the profile of the successful candidate and the timeline of the ITk project, physics analysis involvement in Run-3 may also be envisaged within one of the already existing analysis teams of ATLAS-IJCLab group: Higgs, SM analyses.
The Irène Joliot-Curie Physics Laboratory of 2 Infinities (IJCLab) is a UMR under the supervision of the CNRS (IN2P3), the University of Paris-Saclay and the University of Paris is located on the campus of the University of Paris -Saclay in Orsay. The laboratory is located on the campus of the Université Paris-Sud, Université Paris-Saclay in Orsay. The campus is located 20 km south of Paris and easily accessible by RER in 35 minutes. IJCLab was born in 2020 from the merger of five units (CSNSM, IMNC, IPN, LAL, LPT). The staff is made up of nearly 560 permanent (340 engineers, technicians and administrators and 220 researchers and teacher-researchers) and approximately 200 non-permanent including 120 doctoral students. The research themes of the laboratory are nuclear physics, high energy physics, theoretical physics, astroparticles, astrophysics and cosmology, particle accelerators, energy and the environment and health. IJCLab has very significant technical capacities (around 280 IT) in all the major fields required to design, develop and implement the experimental devices necessary for its scientific activity, as well as the design, development and use of instruments.
The hired researcher will work in the ATLAS-ITk group of the Laboratory which is involved in the production of pixel modules of the outer barrel of ITk. ITk-IJCLab group consists of 5 staff physicists, 3 engineers, 2 technicians and 1 PhD students and work closely with the respective ITk groups of neighboring labs: LPNHE and CEA-Irfu. The relevant resources include a sophisticated probe station, all the needed power supplies for the module testing, a climate chamber, optical microscope, a smart-scope and a profilometer. Finally, special travel budget is foreseen.
Eligibility criteria
Candidates must hold a doctorate in a high energy physics field, with strong expertise and involvement in hardware projects. Proven research skills evidenced by a least one publication as the first/joint first or second author relating to the subject or activities of the project will be appreciated. Other essential criteria for this post are managerial ability for the team and the project, since the successful candidate is expected to lead the testing activities in the lab and train and supervise several other members of the team. Candidates must have a very positive attitude to working in a team. Finally, fluency in spoken and written English is a requirement.
