德国埃森大学医院博士后职位—癌症转移机制及治疗反应

Essen University Hospital

The University Hospital Essen offers first class medical services in the Ruhr metropolis. Every year, 225.000 patients are treated in 30 clinics, 27 institutes and specialized centers. The over 8.000 employees offer medical care with state-of-the art diagnostics and therapies, which meet highest international standards. Patient care is connected with basic and translational research at an internationally competitive level.

The Department of Medical Oncology of the West German Cancer Center is currently seeking a

Postdoc (m/f/d)

(pay grade: 13 TV-L 100% – temporary employment)

Starting from October 1, 2022 at earliest

The pay grade classification depends on the personal and collective legal requirements. The employment is provided for the duration of a third-party funded until 30.06.2025. An extension might be possible according to available funding and the maximum employment duration as given by law regarding scientific fixed-term contracts (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz).

Description of projects:

The position is within the BMBF-funded consortium SATURN3 (Spatial and Temporal Resolution of Intratumoral Heterogeneity in 3 hard-to-treat Cancers) focusing on deconvolutingintratumoral heterogeneity in cancer. Genomics-informed clinical decision making and immune therapy have radically changed the therapeutic landscape of cancer. However, the current implementation of these approaches does not incorporate multidimensional intratumor heterogeneity (ITH) responsible for therapy resistant and metastatic clones. This unmet need will be addressed by the multidisciplinary SATURN3 consortium in three common, hard-to-treat tumor entities – breast (Luminal-B, TNBC), colorectal and pancreatic cancer. SATURN3 will map unique patient cohorts to dissect dynamic ITH over space and time by coupling single-cell, spatial and bulk multi-omics profiling as a central technology in combination with innovative sample processing, liquid- and imaging-based monitoring.

We will devise state of the art (including AI-driven) analytical methods to integrate these data, thereby decomposing tumors at unprecedented resolution, uncovering causal relationships, and identifying the next generation of biomarkers for translation that capture ITH. Innovative multisite organoid models will be instrumental to dissect ITH-mediated resistance mechanisms and metastasis and identify therapeutic targets. Rigorous validation in large trial cohorts will help select robust biomarkers and the best therapeutic strategies for clinical use. Prospective study protocols will be established to improve treatment and patient survival.

SATURN3 is conceptualized by researchers from 13 cancer centers. It integrates a unique team of world-leading omics, data science, translational researchers with biomarker expertise in tissue, fluid and imaging scenarios. Renowned clinicians mandating large study groups will ensure clinical proof-of-concept. SATURN3 is supported by trained patient advocates to promote a patient-centered view. The seamless integrated network structure that connects our working groups will synergize towards the overall goal: rapid translation of profound ITH insights into patient-centered, life-saving therapies.

Duties:

• The Postdoctoral fellow we are searching for will be mainly working in the team for mechanistic analysis of plasticity, TME, immune escape & metastasis, focusing on the mechanisms of resistance in recurrence and metastasis, as well as preclinical trials and validated ITH targets for therapy

• The candidate will independently plan and conduct experiments and analyze data, perform bioinformatic analysis and handle big multi-omics datasets

• Correspondence and collaboration within the mechanistic subprojects as well as with the other projects within the consortium, participating in regular consortial meetings, including presenting regular project updates and preparing regular progress reports are within the required duties

Your profile:

• We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow interested in studying the mechanisms of cancer metastasis and therapy response

• Completed Diploma or Master degree in Medical Biology, Molecular Medicine, Medical Biology, Biochemistry or equivalent and a PhD in a relevant field, with a proven track record in publishing high impact publications

• Experience in molecular biology, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), and bioinformatic multi-omics data analysis are required

• Experience in primary human cell culture (organoids) and experimental animal work is preferred

• Excellent writing and presentation skills in English and German

The University Hospital Essen is an equal opportunity employer. Female scientists are particularly encouraged to apply. The participation in secondary employment depends on the „Hochschulnebentätigkeitsverordnung“ of North-Rhine Westphalia. Disabled applicants will be preferentially considered in case of equivalent qualification. The position is also available as part-time employment.

Our university offers attractive academic career track options and family friendly conditions.
